This TV musical was a DuPont Show of the Month aired by CBS. It
was adapted from a successful stage play by Joseph Fields and Jerome
Chodorov, and was a light-hearted family story. One of the songs
I'll Buy It was a particular favourite
of Dorothy's.
An album was released of four TV musicals including Junior Miss
by Blue Pear records -Four Television Musicals BP-1019. (The other
three were A Bell For Adano, The
Canterville Ghost and No Man Can
Tame Me.) The sound quality is terrible.
I have read that the Blue Pear albums all consisted of bootleg recordings.
Six tracks (all but It's Just What I Wanted)
by the interesting cast are featured on this extremely rare recording
as follows:
A Man Is An Animal (Carol Lynley
and Suzanne Sydney)
Have Feet Will Dance (Chorus)
Let's Make It Christmas All Year 'Round
(Don Ameche, Joan Bennett, Carol Lynley, Jill St. John)
I'll Buy It (David Wayne and Diana
Lynn)
Happy Heart (Chorus)
Junior Miss (Don Ameche)
Lynette Perry performs Happy Heart
on the CD Primetime Musicals.
It seems likely that the seventh song, It's
Just What I Wanted, was not performed in the final broadcast.
Great News in 2008: The Paley Center for Media (formerly
Museum of Television and Radio) has succeeded in tracking down a
kinescope of Junior Miss and will
be making it available for public view.
